I?ve notice when I asked about upgrading the hardware on my exchange server I needed to install exchange on the new server and join the new exchange server to the existing site and move the users from the old server to the new server.
My question is when I joined the new server to the site all the mail boxes and distribution list got replicated to the new server, why would I want to move the mailboxes from the old exchange server to the new server when they are already there?
Here are the step I will take for the hardware upgrade. The domain name will stay the same. The IP address will chage. The exchange server name will change, running Win NT 4.0 services pack 6
1)Plan for transition period and ask ISP provider to add a second MX record with different priority.
2)Install exchange on MERIT2K join new exchange server to existing site.
3)Take notes (print screens) of old IMS connector
4)Delete IMS connector on old exchange server
5)Create IMS connector on new exchage serve. Use the IMS wizard and the print screen from old IMS connector for configuration process.
6)Configure the Routing Calculating Server to point to new exchage server
Does this sound like it’s going to work?
Suggestions will be appreciated.
