I have Exchange 5.5, SP 3, on an old server, OS 4.0 SP6a plus recent SP rull-up. I loaded another Exchange 5.5, SP 4, on new Windows 2K server, same site, and moved just a couple mailboxes for testing purposes. The plan is to stabilize 5.5 after moving mail boxes to new server and then upgrade to Exchange 2000, but I got stuck. Exchange 5.5 on new server works except for OWA for domain users. Domain Admins can use OWA fine, but domain users receive message, ?Failed to connect to the Microsoft Exchange Server, G7400.? G7400 is the new server.
I?ve spent the last week in Tech Net, many KB articles including, Q178511-XWEB: Err Msg: Failed to Connect…?, Mastering Exchange 2000 Server, MCSE Exchange Study Guide, Tech Republic Exchange Server 5.5/2000 Resource Guide, alas to no avail.
In order to keep my users working without risk of Exchange corruption, and because from what I’ve read Exchange 2000 OWA is more robust and admin friendly, I am thinking that it may be better at this timeto upgrade the Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 first, on the new server, before I move any more mail boxes. Current Exchange migration literature is weak full connectors and port configuration explanations.
1. Should I first change the LDAP port on the new 2000 server Exchange 5.5? I was going to use 390. 2. Since I already have Active Directory running on the new server, do I need to worry about the Exchange 2000 ADC specifically?
