Exchange Client & Win98 SE problems

Running exchange client(sp2) on Win98SE. EI 5.0 looses its ability to arrange custom search engines and not all site have their HTML content displayed. I have tried using the Win98 updates including 5.01 – no effect. The only solution I have found was to use Fdisk to rebuild the MBR (fdisk /MBR, reformat the drive and reinstall via original image of OS. Not using exchange is not an option. Anyone who has experienced this or have and idea?
