With service pack 1 for Exchange 2000, Migration Wizard added an option to Migrate from Exchange 5.5 servers in different domain/sites. Service pack 2 for Exchange supposedly improved this feature. My Problem:
I cannot connect to the 5.5 server with the Migration Wizard. I believe it is a permissions issue. At the screen where the 5.5 server name and logon information is entered, I get the error “Invalid server or you do not have the permissions required.”
As per Technet Q281496, the logon I am using here has been granted Exchange admin rights over the Orginization, Site and Configuration containers. It is also an Admin for the NT domain.
More details:
The NT server on which Exchange 5.5 is running is the PDC and is running The latest service packs for exchange and NT 4.0.
The 2000 server that Exchange 2000 is running on is a Domain Controller and also has the latest service packs for W2K and Exchange. It is running in mixed mode.
I have also created two way trusts beween the 2000 domain and the NT 4.0 domain.
I have also made sure that the Exchange 5.5 server is using port 389 for LDAP.
I can ping the Exchange 5.5 server form the 2000 server so I know it can resolve the name.
I think the logon I am using needs additional permisions on the 5.5 server, but I do not know what those might be. Please help if you can!
