Exchange Server

I am trying to add two Exchange Server to our network. The current server will stay as is but we will add a second server to another domain for redundancy perposes. The second server will act as a backup. I need to know if this can be done and how will it affect the clients. We are using Exchange 5.5 server with Outlook 98/2000 as the clients.
