EXCHANGE SMTP CONNECTOR

by ilovenetworking . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

Hi,

I have 2 windows 2000 servers. I have a full T1 point to point link between SERVERB and SERVERA. Server A is connected to the Internet via T1.
I have a registered domain name NIEENTERPRISES.COM – DNS for NIEENTERPRISES.COM is hosted externally. The local sub-domain for NIEENTERPRISES.COM on SERVERA is called CHICAGO.NIEENTERPRISES.COM and the local sub-domain for SERVERB is called NEWYORK.NIEENTERPRISES.COM
I have an Exchangee 2000 server installed on SERVERA (SERVERA.CHICAGO.NIEENTERPRISES.COM)and I have an Exchange 2000 server intalled on SERVER(SERVERB.CHICAGO.NIEENTERPRISES.COM)

I’m trying to setup Exchange to first of all receive any external messages (INSTALLED AN SMTP CONNECTOR AND DON’T RECEIVE ANY MESSAGES!!!)The MX record sits on the external DNS server and points to mail.nieenterprises.com and servera.nieenterprises.com
What am I doing wrong?

Once, I get the Internet e-mail to work I would like my users to receive e-mails sent to user@nieenterprises.com not to user@chicago.nieenterprises.com and user@newyork.nieenterprises.com

How can I accomplish this? Does it have to do with the external DNS or the internal DNS?
What connectors do I need to configure? and how many?

I THINK I HAVE READ ALL MICROSOFT’S WHITE PAPERS ON SETTING UP CONNECTORS AND I HAVEN’T FOUND A SIMILAR SCENARIO WHICH I’M SURE IS VERY COMMON!

Thanks in advance,

W.S.
