Explorer error/crash in Windows 2000

My Event viewer shows: The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.Exe was restarted

When I open a couple of applications then open Windows Explorer, Explorer freezes and I have to kill the task. I tryed re loading the latest driver for the NIC. Still freezing

Computer is a Dell 330 1/2 gb of Ram, plenty of space and no memory errors. Any suggestions ?
