Explorer hangs on boot – Stack fault err

I was cleaning up personal files off of a IBM 380Z laptop
so we could send it out with a different user and now when
the laptop is booted it hangs as soon as the taskbar is
displayed. Error is: This program has performed an illegal
operationand will be shut down. If the problem persists,
contact the program vendor. Details: EXPLORER caused a
stack fault in module SHDOCVW.DLL at 0177:70f4ebda.

CTRL+ALT+DEL is locked up at this point. Also the laptop
has the same problem in safe mode.
