external mouse on a Toshiba

The internal mouse quit working on a Satellite Toshiba notebook so I put an external mouse and it worked for about a day but now it will not. I should say it will work about every 10th time. Any suggestions on how to fix that? I do not mind using anexternal mouse, actually I prefer that. 50
