Failed Hard Drive

Recently my OS Windows XP SP2 for some reason got corrupted when I was trying to remove open office and would not start.
A repair guy couldn’t start it either and replaced the drive managing to save some of my data.

I still have the Maxtor 6Y 160MO HD Question?
Would there be a problem if I tried installing it as a slave could it corrupt my new HD or is it best to leave it alone.
