Father’s Day Memory

by johngreer . Updated 22 years, 11 months ago

I have an IBM NetVitsa A30p (8310-48u) which came with 256MB of memory. IBM online doc says it’s a PC2100 and I have a slot for another PC2100.

For Father’s Day my kids gave me a new PC2100. They they used the IBM web site and the PNY web siteconfigurator to insure compatibility. The new DIMM is PNY part #D512M64210OPT. It installed fine and was recognized by the BIOS and Win XP Home.

My problem is that it “seems” like XP is dragging. I expected an improvement, but XP seems to studder, the mouse skips and overall system appearance “seems” worse. Why?

P.S. I downloaded a tool from cpuid.com called CPUZ. It says the old DIMM is a 2300 and the new DIMM is a 2700, even though they both say 2100 on the outside. Is this true, or is there another tool that will show me more accurate info?
