fax spam and IE problems

This is my first post, and I am a newbie, for sure. My question is probaly pretty boring since what I’ve read of you folks discussions is way over my head. However, here goes. I recently got fax capability. Now I am being spammed so bad it used up my printer cartridges. Is there a way to prevent or block this without turning off my printer or manually responding? Also, windows doesn’t seem to be able to help me fix IE. It keeps locking up when I switch identities. Even restarting does not always fix this. Anyone who can enlighten me in newbie language would be appreciated.
