file share

I have a windows XP Pro machine that will not find a network file share. The machine has the right IP info (subnet and gateway). I can ping any server on the network including the server that the data I am trying to access resides on. What can become corrupt in Windows XP to stop this from occurring? I really do not want to re-format and start over.
