Files from CD are too short

Using Windows 98 SE and installing from CD, I can’t install because a lot of files are not listed fully. For example: filecheck.exe shows upas filec~1.exe. I can copy the entire CD to my hard drive and change them as they are asked for but this would require at least 3 to 4 hours of renaming and beginning the install each time. I had previously installed this program with no problem but trying to reinstall, now has this problem.
