floppy/cdrom

Floppy and cdrom drive letter/icon not showing in windows explorer or my computer. If uninstall any one from device manager and reinstall it the letter/icon will be vissible.

The operating system is windows2000 and the computer is a Dell laptop. How do I rectify this problem.
