Floppy Disk help

Hi, I am wondering if any one can help me. I have saved some information on a 3 1/2 floppy disk on a 98 machine and then edited it on a XP machine and now whenever I try to open the disk it asks me if I want to format it? I also tried to go into a command prompt on a 98 machine and it says Error reading data? I dont want to erase the data cuz I need it! Can anyone help??
