?Formatting Hard Drive? quick ?

OK, I FDISK’ed this hard drive and rebooted to Format the C: dr like normal before installing windows. During the format of the drive it stopped the formating and is now “Trying to recover allocation unit” then you see a 6 digit # scrolling up 1 at a time. This is a new one for me, just asking cuz it has been doing this for about 5 hours now. The numbers are currently at 583,356 and going up.
any info would help alot.
