FTP server in W2000 halts on dir listing

Have set up a ServU ftp server on my W2000 workstation. Its connected to the net via a cable modem. When users try to connect the server halts on dir listing. Have tried with different server sw including windows own. What’s wrong? This is driving me crazy…
