Gateway Fedora Motherboards

ANy one experiencing problems with Gateway GP7-800 systems using the FEDORA mobo? In the past 3 weeks, I’ve had the hard drives on 3 systems go bad (3 different HD mfgr); each time I would install the replacement HD, the preloaded Win98 OS would mis-identify the HD controller. It should be an Intel 82815 Ultra ATA/66, but defaults to Standard EIDE. When that happens, the system no longer sees the CD ROM drive. I suspect the common FEDORA mobo in each of these systems. Any ideas?
