Gateway will not go past Splash Screen

I have an older Gateway Essential 500. When the machine boots, it shows the Gateway splash screen, initialized the CD-ROM, spins the hard disk, then stops. I get no errors, the splash screen sits there. I’ve tried putting in a bootable CD-ROM and floppy and it does not read either. I have tried removing the bios jumper pin to put it in configure mode and same results. I downloaded a new bios flash file, and set the BIOS jumper pin to recovery mode and then I get no monitor signal at all. I am at a lost here. Any suggestions would help. Thanks
