general protection fault

Whenever I am working on my computer,
either on internet or any other
program,many a times I get a message,
‘This program has committed a fault
and is going to shut down’.The details
of the fault are:
‘DDhelp caused a general protection
fault in MODULE GDI.EXE at 0001.0001bef’
Please clarify how to rectify this
fault.
