getting 2000 pro notice cd

ok, at work i got a system with 2000 pro on our network however when the cd rom (any cdrom), is hooked up it gets to the windows startup screen gets 2/3 of the way and crashes/freezes. i swapped the hd on another identical system and it works just dandy when the cdrom is unplugged it works i checked bios, checked irq’s switched arround ide interfaces but still the same problem. i also checked the scsi bios and no conflicts the network is peer to peer so you know
