Getting a start with scripting in NT

Hi everyone
My boss has given me a task of developing a script that can automatically closes Internet Explorer after a set period of activity. This tasks is part learning experience part beneficial development for the corporate network. I have sources a few resources/documentation, but am a little unsure as to how to approach this problem. Can anyone recommend any good starting points (web site/references etc)to kick off with?
