getting to the net

I am trying to get to the net using dial up connection with windows XP. I can connect to the provider. I can ping to every pingable address using both hostname and ip address. I can traceroute. I can even use the visual route. But I cannot browse! Seemingly a dns error. But I have used all the dns ips, primary and secondary and dns suffix as provided. Have also used the ‘get dns automatically’ option as well. Nothing works. As I can ping, maybe its not the operating system that is screwed. Could it be IE? Or is it some .dll file of XP? If yes what .dll files of XP play role here? I have used all ipconfig/release, renew, flushdns commands just to see where the problem lies. Is there something to do with the dhcp settings? I used two different dial up connections and its the same.
