Gig backbone

I’m intrested in purchasing a gig switch for 5 W2K servers. I have 10/100 nics already installed in each server. I’ve added gig nics in each server too. I would like to hook up these servers together using the gig nics and a gig switch.

Can I leave the 10/100 nics running and connected to my LAN, for file/print use, and use the gig nics connected to each server and the gig switch to run just my backup and ghost software?

I’m using AD, wins,dns… I would not hook up the gig switch tothe LAN, so there would not be two paths to each server.

Let me know what you think of this config, or a better one.

I’ve looked into using a Cisco Gig swith to connect to my other cisco 10/100 switches, however it is over $6000 for one switch. I can get a 12 port gig switch alone for $800, and leave them seperate.
