GPO Errors

One of my Win 2K server GPO’s failed to open, indicating an error. The GPO file was found but could not open.

I restored it from a backup. After three editing sessions It again failed to open, this time indicating that the path could not be found.

What could be damaging the GPO file and how can I prevent damage from occuring?
