Hard Disk Replacement for Maxtor Shared Storage Drive

Bought a Maxtor Share Storage Plus Drive (200Gb) about 16 months ago (you guessed it 12 month warranty) and I suspect the hard drive has now failed. When you press the power switch the unit starts the fan for a few seconds before switching off.

Has anybody out there had a similar problem and is it worth replacing the hard disk with another unit?
