Hard Drive alarm

by lump_16 . Updated 21 years, 12 months ago

While I havn’t had the chance to take a first hadn look at the drive yet, it seems my friends Western Digital drive is overheating from the time it boots, sounding the overheat alarm and not booting.

At least that’s my first conclusion on what may be happening, I can’t say I’ve ever herd the HD make and alarm sound. And we’re sure it’s the alarm not a chain of BIOS beeps.

Using trusty oogle hasn’t come up with much on the situation either.

Drive is cool to the touch even when powered on, and it’s been tested in two systems, beeps the same way in both (Telling me it’s not a BIOS beep but confirming it’s comming fromt he hard drive)

Any pointers? suggestions?

Fixable? SOL?

Thanks for any assistance!
