Hard Drive Not Detected

So I have just bought a new hard drive. WD 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache. When I go through the bios (startup), it recognizes my hard drive…slowly, but it does…then i insert my XP Installation Disk, go through everything, and when it comes to the point to partition the hard drive, it says, “Unknown Disk. There is no disk in this drive.” So even though my motherboard reads it, XP Installation doesnt. Is there anyway for it to read it? Please help! Any help is appreciated!
