Hard Drive wont show up

by jeremy . Updated 23 years, 2 months ago

I have an old 233 MHz system that I am setting up in my living room to be networked for simple internet tasks. I have a 3.2 GB harddrive that I installed windows 98 on, and a 512 MB hard drive. The problem is that windows wont assign the 512 MB harddrive a drive letter to let me use it. It does not show up in my computer. In the device manager under disk drives it shows up as Generic Type 47 or something of the like, but in the properties there is nothing for the “drive letter assigned” field.Do I need to write some files to the 512 drive to get it to be recognized by windows? Also, the 512 drive won’t let me designate it as a slave, and i can’t find any jumpers on it, so I set it as the secondary primary ide device. Any idea what I needto do? Thanks.
