HDD temp sensor?

Hi,
I’ve just come across something I’ve never seen before. Its a brass thingummy that looks like the post that plug retaining screws go into. It has two wires coming from it which presumably connect to the mobo somewhere. This device is screwed into a spare mounting hole on the HDD.
I surmise that its a temperature sensor.

Has anyone any knowledge of these?
