I have an HP Pavillion I purchased sometime last year. Can’t find the receipt, and tracing the serial # shows it was “born” more than a year ago. Here’s the problem: My laptop will not boot up, I can hear the dvd drive running and it’s lights lite up, but no other sounds from a fan, or lights from the power supply, etc. I took it in to be diagnosed (on my dime), and was told the motherboard is scorched. The tech tried calling HP to see if it could be replaced by them, but they said the serial # says it’s past the 1 year warranty *rolls eyes* (I am still trying to get Office Depot to find records of my purchase to show it’s actually been less than a year since I purchased it) Anyway, my question is.. How do I retrieve my data off the hardrive when the motherboard is cashed and I can’t turn the laptop on to get at the data??
