HELP cannot download anything from IE 6

I am not able to download any files from the web. I always get a pop-up
window that says

“Internet Explorer cannot download ******.*** from *****.***.”

“Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is eitherunavailable or cannot be found. Please try
again later.”

What do I need to do to correct this problem? Obviously I can get to the site because I am tring to downlaod from it. This covers all downlaods including PFD’s just to read.

Is this a virus? Can it be repaired? or do I have to unistall & re-nstall IE 6.
