Help Me Not Get Fired

by redshift . Updated 25 years ago

My boss’ PC has been having trouble for the past few months, and I just can’t seem to solve the problem. He gets the big “This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.”The error happens most often in IExplore, but Access, Word, Visio, and the MSN Messenger have all suffered from this.

The PC is a Pentium III 750 on an Asus mainboard with all of the latest drivers. The RAM is Micron PC133, of which there are 128MB in one DIMM, the HDD is an 8 gig Fujitsu with nothing special (on the Primary IDE), there is a 50x CD-ROM drive that is master to a Zip 100 (both of which are on the 2ndary IDE). The video adapter is an AGP ATI Rage Fury, the sound card is a Sound Blaster PCI (PCI version of the SB16), and the NIC is a Netgear FA-310. The OS is Win98SE with all updates installed, and we’ve tried IE 4, 5, 5.5, and 6 Public Preview – all of which behave the same.

Bear in mind that this is an intermittant error and under no circumstances has it been recreatable, which makes this especially difficult.
