Help w/IT career

by agpc . Updated 20 years, 9 months ago

Piggying back on the recent, “Help managing a very brilliant employee”, I would like to ask for help re the following distinct concerns:

1) How does one recover from an IT layoff? It has been over 2 yrs that I was laid off from a Silicon Valley giant. I am trying to hang in like most but it has been very rough. I have many colleagues and friends going through this challenge. I can’t live w/the 3-mo or 4-mo gig here and there anymore. I know a great deal but there is still room for growth. I am losing what I don’t use especially when performing on “pc janitor duties” gigs just to eke out a living;

2) How does one stay positive due to the aforementioned? I was recently enlightened that my ‘tude needs a makeover;

3) How does one stay positive when performing in an IT corporate environment when SLAs and EU escalations are land mines? It can be stressful to state the obvious. In the legal arena, most criminals have 3 strikes; however, in this new IT arena of the last few yrs, it seems one has only 1 strike (at will employment to the extreme!) and then one is jettionsed for some silly misunderstading. It has happened to me and many others. It is quite emasculating and a detriment to one’s self-esteem.

HELP!

Thank you.

JC
