help with file access from an external hard drive

I have seen some similar post but no answers that have worked for me.
I lost my mother board from my sony laptop. i pull the 2.5″ hd and placed in in a external enclosure. I cannot gain access to my old ‘desktop” folder, “access denied”. When I right click on the folder there is no security tab. I have seen that message posted here in the past. i can get everything else but not whats in the desktop foldr. Thanks.
