Help with transfering files (photos)

I need some specific advice on how to transfer a lot of picture files from one computer to another in the same house. We bought a new lap top and have an older desk top that we want to replace and the burner is dead. I really dont want to replace the burner since we are going to replace the computer. Can some one help? Thanks in advance. Both of our computer have XP on them.
