hotsync problems

I cannot hotsync either thru serial or IR…I get message “The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.”

I have tried everything–checked settings and Com ports, hard resets (which worked initially), other computers, new software, serial port on computer evaluated etc. Even palm support doesn’t know why I can’t hotsync and they can’t/won’t help me. I am at my wits end and have 2 mos worth of data I need to sync. Please help.
