How can I play MP3s in RH Linux

I have just installed RH 8 on my machine. Everything is working fine except for mp3s. For some reason the KDE XMMS application does not open the MP3 files. When I click OPEN and navigate to the music folder, and select the songs and click OK, nothing happens. In fact the programme goes back to the OPEN dialog box.

Should I install some other application, or what? Please help. I can play music CDs without problem though.
