How do I link 2 computers?

I want to link two stand-alone Win98 desktop computers and copy files from one machine to the other. I have the cable to do it and have done this in the past, but do not remember the procedure. Do I gain access to “Machine A” by going through “My Computer” on “Machine B”? If so, what next.
