How to change the Product ID in XP

by cjfradenburg . Updated 23 years, 7 months ago

Have several PCs to roll out to a cutomer. They are all identicle and all will have the same load. (Used GHOST to clone) Now need to find out why the MS Knowledge Base Article # 321636 does not work as advertized. They say to log as admin, regedit HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWSNT\CURRENT VERSION\WPAEVENTS and mod the OOBETIMER, changing one of the hex values, exit registry, then run the Activation Wizard (START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, ACTIVATE WINDOWS) and you should see the screen you get when you actually do need to reactivate, select “Yes, I want to telephone…..”, NEXT, then click “Change Product Key”.

Problem is, each time I do this operation, it comes back and says “Windows is already activated” and I never get a chance to enter the Product Key from the next software package. (I have enough copies of XP Pro from each machine).

Anybody out there up on this?
Thanks for any help you can give,
