how to connect internet in windows 2000

How to connect to internet with my internal modem since i had try to connect them since it can’t interact with my phone line (my modem is internal 56kpbs v92 generic data & fax modem). I always hear the click sound from the modem but i don’t hear the phone line sound from my speaker. i had check the list of windows2000 compatible hardware list show my type of modem is not in the list.
