In order to use the Find/Replace funtionality of Wordpad (which Notepad doesn’t have) without the excess baggage of Word, I want to change my default HTML editor in Win98/IE 6 to Wordpad. I thought I had the problem licked by editing the Registry entries under HKLM and HCU for Software\Microsoft … Default HTML Editor\shell\edit, because “Edit with Wordpad” did become the Tool Tip when I placed my mouse pointer over the Edit button on IE’s Standard Toolbar, and Wordpad opened with the appropriate HTML when I clicked the button.
But after restarting my computer, though the button and Tool Tip had not changed, it was Word that opened up, not Wordpad.
Does anybody have any ideas what’s going on here? Is there some Registry entry that is substituting Word for Wordpad? I’ve done Registry searches on “Word,” “Wordpad” and “.rtf” and found nothing so far.
