How to monitor a server – Ping server

I would like to monitor multiple Windows servers to know when they go down/crash. I am looking for a small app (not like Net IQ) similiar to a ping server that can run on a Windows platform. A shareware based app is fine. If the app can monitor morethings that would be good as well.

If the app is awesome I will greatly increase the point value.
