How to re-install Internet Explorer

I think my Internet Explorer configuration is corrupted somewhere. Everytime it tries to open another window by clicking on a link, it gets stuck doing it. I have the latest version with all the patches and I want to do a re-install to overwrite its files, but ie6setup won’t let me. How can I do this without re-installing the whole XP Operating System?
