How to reformat disc

I want to eliminate my Win ME and run in Win 2000 PRo. Since ME cannot be upgraded to 2000 Pro, then I need reformat my disc totally and put a new OS. Can you give me the right to do it so I won’t be ended up with a dead computer. Thanks.
