How to SAFELY delete Win. media player.

I would like to know how I can SAFELY delete Windows Media Player or how to stop it from loading when a music CD is inserted into the CD Rom? I am working on a computer that likes to freeze totally when WMP is launched. It is a mystery because it is the only program that doesd it. It is just the standard WMP which coems with Win Me. This computer is running 128 MB Ram, and plenty of free space on the HDD.

What I have tried already is different CPU, same effect, diferent Ram chips, same effect, so they are not the problem. The current CPU is 233 MhZ. which is the maximum for that mobo. Have also tried using the Media Player with no other programs running, same effect. They do have WinAmp installed and never have a problem with that or any other software installed.

Any ideas out there?
