How to save dial-up networking password?

I have a Dell Dimension computer that is running Windows 98 SE. I cannot save the password in the save box. Even though it is checked it will not saved the password. I have tried everything on listed on Microsoft’s site. MSN is installed but I an not using MSN I am using Internet Explorer. I have removed and reinstalled dial-up networking but that has not helped either.
Any suggestions.
