How to verify end user lic agreement?

Per Compaq tech supprot, I re-installed Win ME from the Options/Cab folder.

At the very end, it asks for username and company info. I have no idea what was originally typed in this field.

I got an error message that setup couldn’t verify end user license agreement, and it closed.

I can get into safe mode at least. How can I get past this obstacle? Will loading Win XP upgrade solve this?
