Hp CDWriter Plus 7500 series

I installed Win2000 Pro. Downloaded software from Hp that was supposed to load drivers for the CD Writer. I ran the exe then the OS started blue screening and rebooting. Tried to go in safemode and other modes but OS was still blue screening. This is an external drive. Could someone give me some info on setting this up under Win2000.
